Learn to Hockey Skate is a beginning, instructional program to teach girls and boys ages 4 and up to hockey skate.
It is ADM compliant with an emphasis on stride, balance, and crossovers.
With this program skaters are required to wear: Hockey skates, hockey helmet with face shield or cage, elbow pads, neck guard, and hockey gloves.
Knee pads or shin pads are highly recommended but are not required.
Everyone also must register with USA Hockey online at USAHOCKEY.COM prior to completing the Whalers registration; there is no additional charge for players up to age 6. Registering with USAH is good for one full season so you do not need to register with USAH for each program you register for.
Please check the schedule on the website for weather related cancelations or time changes at least weekly.
Parents with hockey skating skills are welcome to help on the ice with the Learn to Hockey Skate program but need to be USA Hockey registered online. Coaching Certification Level 1 with USA Hockey and U8 Module completion is mandatory by 12/31/15.
COACHING CERTIFICATION WITH USA HOCKEY IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED.
NO SHOES ARE ALLOWED ON THE ICE! ALL COACHES AND VOLUNTEERS MUST WEAR A HOCKEY HELMET WHEN ON THE ICE.
